A metal detector may indeed be a tool you can use to make use of your free time at the beach.  With it you can comb stretches of sand and discover metallic objects which can be of value. You may use the damp cloth but always follow it with a dry one. This will ensure that your detector will not accumulate rust. The best metal detectors take time to rust but if they are cleaned well and for a prolonged period they may still give in to corrosion. Do not forget to take off the batteries before you store it for a longer period.  Failure in doing so will spend your battery without you having to use the detector. This also prevents any possibility of battery leak which might damage the entire gadget.  You must also buy a cover for the search coil which is the most important part of the gadget.
